Besides making covenants (contracts) with His people in general (see The Better Covenant), Yahweh also covenanted more privately with King David. David was a man after Yahweh's own heart.
And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will. Acts 13:22
I have made a covenant with my chosen, I have sworn unto David my servant, Thy seed will I establish for ever, and build up thy throne to all generations. Selah. Psalms 89:3-4
Ought ye not to know that יהוה [Yahweh] Elohim [god] of Israel gave the kingdom over Israel to David for ever, even to him and to his sons by a covenant of salt? 2 Chronicles 13:5
This covenant was renewed with Solomon:
Then will I stablish the throne of thy kingdom, according as I have covenanted with David thy father, saying, There shall not fail thee a man to be ruler in Israel. 2 Chronicles 7:18
The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be. Genesis 49:10
Here is the question. "Did Yahweh keep His covenant with David?"
If Yahushua (Jesus), the seed of the woman, is NOT the Messiah and King, then this covenant has failed. "Where is the seed of David sitting on any throne today?"
The ONLY way for this promise to still be valid is through the current reign of the better king, Messiah.
Behold, the days come, saith יהוה [Yahweh], that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth. In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, יהוה [Yahweh] OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS. Jeremiah 23:5-6
The Christ [Messiah] is promised under the name of his progenitor, David,
Isa 55:3, 4; Eze 34:23, 24; 37:24, 25; Ho 3:5. AND will be known by his Father's family name Yahweh.
But they shall serve יהוה [Yahweh] their Elohim, and David their king, whom I will raise up unto them. Jeremiah 30:9
And I will set up one shepherd over them, and he shall feed them, even my servant David; he shall feed them, and he shall be their shepherd. Ezekiel 34:23
And David my servant shall be king over them; and they all shall have one shepherd: they shall also walk in my judgments, and observe my statutes, and do them. Moreover I will make a covenant of peace with them; it shall be an everlasting covenant with them: and I will place them, and multiply them, and will set my sanctuary in the midst of them for evermore. Ezekiel 37:24,26
Has this prophecy been fulfilled? We discussed the fulfillment of this everlasting covenant here. What about the King?
Lift up your head, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? יהוה [Yahweh, Messiah] strong and mighty, יהוה [Yahweh] mighty in battle. Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? יהוה [Yahweh, Messiah] of hosts, he is the King of glory. Selah. Psalms 24:7-10
And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with יהוה [Yahweh]. And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Yahushua. He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and יהוה [Yahweh] Elohim shall give unto him the throne of his father David: And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. Luke 1:30-33

Finally, we, the elect of Yahweh and Son's of Yahweh, will be made priests and kings to rule with Him.
And hast made us unto our Elohim kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth. Revelation 5:10
