The Levites weren't given land, so they were given the offerings and a portion of increase (tithe) from those who did. Their time was to be spent officiating in the tabernacle, not working in fields - not farming and ranching.

Thus speak unto the Levites, and say unto them, When ye take of the children of Israel the tithes which I have given you from them for your inheritance, then ye shall offer up an heave offering of it for the Lord, even a tenth part of the tithe. Numbers 18:26

This tithe for the Levites didn't provide their INCOME. They primarily lived by eating the daily sacrifices and offerings (Leviticus 10:12,13) and the first-fruits (Deuteronomy 18:4)

The priests the Levites, all the tribe of Levi, shall have no portion nor inheritance with Israel: they shall eat the offerings of Yahweh made by fire, and his inheritance. Deuteronomy 18:1

Ministers today (actually, the churches) claim 100% of the tithe as a payment for the Levites. Is that because ministers today are without land? Not usually. The churches claim that this tithe belongs to God and that they, as His representative on Earth are entitled to it. A large percentage is absorbed as administrative fees before any remaining amounts are handed over to the ministers.

Let's look at this closely.

First, ministers are NOT Levites. There are no Levites in Christianity today. Are they analogous? If all Christians except ministers were given free land as an inheritance, it may be analogous. But that doesn't happen. Christians mostly work for wages, just as ministers work for wages and neither have received their inheritance.

Second, unlike what we are taught, 100% of the tithe did NOT go to the Levites. The churches teach that the tithe went to the Levites (and a portion of it did) but fail to mention its other uses. The churches wrongly claim 100% of the tithe for use of the Levites, then use large amounts to pay for presidents, treasurers, secretaries, committees, janitors, office space, cars, operating budgets and finally ministers.

What is their claim on the people's land rents today?
