Lost Coin

Group: Lost is Found

Luke 15:08-10

Text Quotation

Luke 15:8-10 Either what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find it? And when she hath found it, she calleth her friends and her neighbours together, saying, Rejoice with me; for I have found the piece which I had lost. Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.

Commentary

The woman who lost a coin will look until she finds it and then invite her friends to rejoice. This parable, like the other parables of things "lost" (son and sheep) all represent God's longing to seek and save that which was lost. (Matthew 18:11 For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost.) Nothing in any of Christ's parables of "loss" was permanently lost. ALL were found and there was rejoicing for each.
