For Everyone? Or just Me?

So, let's assume that you believe in the right of individual self-determination. Who has this right?

Almost everyone in the world wants the right of choice (to some extent) for themselves.

Unfortunately, many ALSO want the right to control others. These two concepts are exclusive and opposite. If I accept the right of choice for myself, I have to also allow you to have this same right.

There are three kinds of People:

    1. Those who want to control (rule) others

    2. Those who want to be told what to do (controlled, ruled)

    3. Those who want to be let alone

The first group doesn't want you and me to have the right to choose. They want to tell us what to do and how. They also want to be supported by society in exchange for bossing us around. This is the group that causes most of the world's misery.

The second group doesn't want the responsibility of deciding. They would rather be told what to do. They can be a drag on society and the economy.

The third group is willing to accept responsibility for their choices, is willing to act on those choices, and wants to exercise those decisions in peace. This is the group responsible for almost all the world's productivity.

Everyone should contemplate into which group they fall. There may be some overlap or incongruities. For example, one man may want the right to choose a spouse, but want to be told where to live or what to do. Another may be just the opposite. Find him a good spouse, but don't try and tell him what job to take.

The detrimental and dangerous group is the busybodies or do-gooders who believe they should protect or boss or control others, either for their own interests or for the good of the "protected". These are the ones who have caused most of the world's wars, bloodshed and misery - sometimes with "good intentions", sometimes with bad or selfish intent - but almost always against the will of others.

The Bible considers these people among thieves and murderers:

"But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men's matters." 1 Peter 4:15
