This is the verse used by organized religions to guilt their members into financially supporting the churches:

Will a man rob God? Yet you rob me! But you say, ‘How have we robbed you?’ In tithes and offerings. You are cursed with the curse; for you rob me, even this whole nation. Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house, and test me now in this,” says Yahweh of Armies, “if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough for. Malachi 3:8-10

From where and when did tithing come, if it isn't Biblical?

"As the Church [Catholic Church] expanded and various institutions arose, it became necessary to make laws which would insure the proper and permanent support of the clergy. The payment of tithes was adopted from the Old Law... The earliest positive legislation on the subject seems to be contained in the letter of the bishops assembled at Tours in 567 and the [canons] of the Council of Macon in 585."—The Catholic Encyclopedia.

This author suggests that the churches be held to the fire and the members demand a better accounting for tithes paid. Is it going to the poor, the orphans, the widows? Is it providing a yearly feast of rejoicing?

Who has the greatest guilt?
