Hell - Where?

We previously learned that Hell, the "lake of fire", sometimes referred to as the "winepress", would take place after the 1000 years (millennium) on Earth. This is after Yahweh, the Heavenly Host and the elect return to Earth with the Holy City.

But WHERE will it be? Will it be in the bowels of the earth, far underground? Or, in some distant "landfill"? Maybe a huge furnace will be built, like the fiery furnace? Will it be in sight of the saved, righteous people who are inside the Holy City? Will the righteous feel the heat or see of the flames?

There is no Biblical evidence to support a hell fire far underground. There is support of death (sometimes translated to "hell") underground, which is where people are generally buried, but buried in death, not in flames. This death, sometimes referred to as hell, is here on earth before the 2nd coming of our Messiah, Yahushua, son of Yahweh, who's new name is Yahweh, and before the millennium.

There is no Biblical evidence of the death of anyone after the millennium, only the death of death (the lake of fire) and government (the beast). Satan and his angels, being created immortal, cannot die, just as the glorified saved cannot die:

Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection. Luke 20:36

There is no record that Satan and his angels are re-created as mortals, nor is there any record that their immortality is somehow removed from them.

The "winepress" is a generally accepted metaphor for hell. Other metaphors are "lake of fire", "furnace of fire", a place of gnashing of teeth and "outer darkness". All of these refer to the judgment of the wicked. Hell can also simply be another name for death. If that "death" is the temporary state before resurrection, it is NOT the final judgment. If it referring to the "second death", that is also equated to the "lake of fire" and the final judgment.

To correctly understand "hell" as the final judgment, it will help to study "The Lake of Fire" and "Three Purifications".

The winepress is outside the walls of the Holy City (outer darkness). Here the ungodly suffer the second death.

Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie. Revelation 22:14-15

And the winepress was trodden without the city, and blood came out of the winepress, even unto the horse bridles, by the space of a thousand and six hundred furlongs. Revelation 14:20

This was typified in the daily life of the Israelites:

And do ye abide without the camp seven days: whosoever hath killed any person, and whosoever hath touched any slain, purify both yourselves and your captives on the third day, and on the seventh day. And purify all your raiment... Numbers 31:19-20 (see also Numbers 19:3,4)

After they are purified, the formerly wicked will come into the Holy City, new creatures, glorified and saved. There is only one reason to leave the gates open. Proof of this and HOW it happens is another study.

And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there. Revelation 21:25
